Dr Gerry McCarthy

Gerry has been a Consultant in Emergency Medicine for the last 28 years, working in Cork University Hospital since 2001, Clinical Lead for the National Clinical Programme for Emergency Medicine (EMP) since 2015.  Member of the Steering Groups for the Development of a Policy on Trauma Networks, Acute Floor Information System and Activity Based Funding in Unscheduled Care.  Gerry was one of the investigators in a study into the optimum design and particular benefits of a HSCP team intervening in the pre-admission environment in patients seeking unscheduled care in Acute Hospitals.  He has a keen interest in the defining the perfect multidisciplinary blended ED team, keeping as much care as locally as is safely possible, while identifying those who need to bypass local hospitals to receive their emergency care needs as expeditiously as possible.
